Greetings, ya'll!

I feel that my first post requires some information about me and my journey through life.

Starting with the most important: I'm a daughter to incredibly hard workers. I'm a big sister to a loyal woman, I'm the luckiest wife to a man with the most beautiful and steadfast soul, and I'm a surrogate mother to the most handsome kitty.

I'm a Texan by way of California. I received my B.A. degree in Philosophy, with a minor in Latin from the University of California, Irvine. After working in corporate America, I've come to the tough realization that I'm happiest when I'm creating. I enjoy hard, honest labor. I want to fall asleep knowing that I've made something that day that didn't exist before. I don't want to punch numbers, I want to punch stamps in to steel. I want to scrub my hands. hard. to get all the dirt and grease out. I want to live passionately.

My works are inspired by my passions. As an Eclectic by nature, I'm passionate about things that choose me. I can't tell you why an ornate antique door or the colors of Indian saris speak to me. I'm not sure why my heart beats faster when looking at gothic architecture or vines crawling over a dilapadated dwelling. I just know that I like these things, and I like when my pulse quickens. I long and strive to make things beautiful and to evoke a feeling, a meaning.  I can be perfectly summed up by this excerpt from Jean Jacques Rousseau's "Confessions":

"One might say that my heart and my mind do not belong to the same person. Feeling takes possession of my soul more rapidly than a flash of lightning; but, instead of illuminating, inflames and dazzle me. I feel everything and see nothing. I am carried away by my passions..."

I've chosen to express my art in the form of jewelry. I find the process of jewelry making exhilarating and ironic. Shiny pieces of material must be made ugly, must be hammered with fists, must be burned in the fire, before they can become beautiful. Rocks were kicked and thrown around before the beauty in them were uncovered. I love that jewelry can be worn, can be carried with you. Something that makes your heart go pitter patter can hang lovingly around your neck. Try that with a Medieval Cathedral or an herb garden, it doesn't work.

Best,

Tanya Celia
